Starbreeze is slated to publish Psychonauts 2 from Double Fine Entertainment, though the latter studio is prepared to find another publisher. Given the general situation around Overkill's The Walking Dead and Starbreeze, it makes sense that Skybound Entertainment is looking to cut ties. Following the poor sales, Starbreeze attempted to cut costs and perform a reconstruction to save itself from insolvency, and the studio was raided by Swedish authorities a few days later for "gross insider crimes," with one person being arrested.
Overkill the walking dead Pc#
The PC version launched in November, achieving mixed reviews on Steam and only making $3.7 million for Starbreeze in terms of net sales. Overkill's The Walking Dead has been a shambling horror for everyone involved for some time now. We remain dedicated to providing our fans with the most premium quality content we can offer, and will continue to look for alternative video game options for the IP," Skybound Entertainment told IGN. We are exceedingly sorry to our fans and share their disappointment in the game. We did our best to work with Starbreeze and resolve many issues that we saw with the game, but ultimately Overkill's The Walking Dead did not meet our standards nor is it the quality that we were promised. Our creators and their stories are the core of Skybound, and since 2014 we have worked hard to expand the world of The Walking Dead into an exceptional Co-op Action FPS. Unfortunately, it looks like this game won't be getting a second chance."As of today, we have terminated our contract with Starbreeze Studios and will discontinue all efforts on Overkill's The Walking Dead.
Overkill the walking dead license#
KitGuru Says: Starbreeze really needed this game to succeed, especially given how expensive the license was in the first place. Right now, Starbreeze is in discussions with Skybound to finish off work on Season 2 DLC, if all goes well, this content will be made available to those who already purchased it. Starbreeze's acting CEO, Mikael Nermark, added that the publisher is “deeply sorry for the issues this may cause” to those who have already brought the game and are expecting more DLC. The game is no longer available to buy on Steam.

As a consequence, the product is expected to be removed from new purchases on Steam within a near future.”

Starbreeze has now released a statement of its own, saying: “Skybound, the license holder of OVERKILL’s The Waling Dead, has filed a license related complaint with the main digital distribution platform for the Starbreeze game OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead. Skybound said that the game did not meet the quality level promised, so that license is now being revoked and development on future console versions has been stopped.

Unfortunately, Overkill's The Walking Dead went through a turbulent development cycle and ended up launching to mixed reviews. Skybound Entertainment is the rights holder for The Walking Dead and sold license to Starbreeze several years ago. The PC version has now been removed from Steam, with Starbreeze responding to the situation with its own statement.

Yesterday, we learned that Skybound Entertainment had canceled its contract with Starbreeze, effectively killing off Overkill's The Walking Dead and putting an end to development on console versions for the game.
